Atomic Revolver Signing

Atomic Revolver Signing 8, originally uploaded by Jason Aaron.

Me, Tony Moore, B. Clay Moore, Jeremy Haun and Seth Peck did a signing over the weekend at Vintage Stock in Joplin, Missouri. Hands were shaken, books were signed, cupcakes were devoured.

Best part: meeting lots of great people, including some big fans of SCALPED and THE OTHER SIDE. Second best part: digging into the store's half-price boxes and taking home issues of Kirby's THE DEMON, Gerber's MAN-THING and Tony Moore's MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. Weirdest part: signing the dashboard of someone's truck, right below William "The Refrigerator" Perry. Worst part: listening to Clay sing "Stop, In the Name of Love" at 2:00 am.

Interview in the New York Daily News

Beginner's luck
'Scalped's' Jason Aaron wrote his own ticket into comic books

Leaping over tall buildings in a single bound is old hat in the comic book industry. A fan off the street with almost no experience getting a gig writing for the publisher of Superman through an unsolicited email? Now, that's an impressive feat.

But that's just what writer Jason Aaron has done, first with his critically acclaimed Vietnam War mini-series, "The Other Side," and now with "Scalped," an ongoing series about a crime-ridden Indian reservation - both published by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint.

THE OTHER SIDE gets Eisner Award nomination

The book that began life as an unsolicited submission is now an Eisner Award nominee. What a long strange trip it's been.

Eisner Nominees for Best Limited Series
Batman: Year 100, by Paul Pope (DC)
The Looking Glass Wars: Hatter M, by Frank Beddor, Liz Cavalier, and Ben Templesmith (Desperado/Image)
The Other Side, by Jason Aaron and Cameron Stewart (Vertigo/DC)
Scarlet Traces: The Great Game, by Ian Edginton and D’Israeli (Dark Horse)
Sock Monkey: The Inches Incident, by Tony Millionaire (Dark Horse)

24seven Volume 2

The second volume of the robot-themed anthology 24seven comes out this summer, and one of the pieces of promo art you see here is from a story that I wrote (betcha can't guess which one). My story is drawn by an amazing new artist named Miguel Alves. Other contributors include Ashley Wood, Gene Ha, Adam Hughes, Dave Johnson and Will Pfeiffer.

Win original art from THE OTHER SIDE

That's right, Cameron Stewart is giving away - totally free - a page of original black and white artwork to someone on MySpace. The 11 x 17 page, seen below, is from THE OTHER SIDE #3 and features both of the book's main characters, Marine Private Bill Everette and NVA soldier Vo Binh Dai.

All you have to do to be elligible is have the THE OTHER SIDE added as one of your Top Friends on MySpace. The winner, chosen at random, will be notified by email and will have to answer five trivia questions, one pertaining to each issue of the comic.

Do you have what it takes, maggot?

SCALPED #4 -- Final Version, originally uploaded by Jason Aaron.

This issue begins a new two-part arc titled "Hoka Hey" that fleshes out some of the relationships and backgrounds on the Rez, while counting down to the casino's grand opening.
