I just read the reprint of Scalped #1 in Vertigo: First Cut and I liked it so well I'm going to pick up vol. 1 of the trade, and maybe vol 2. or The Other side I haven't decided yet, but you got a new fan, and thanks for the great read Jason.

Read Scalped.

Wasn't impressed.

Being a Native of the North/East I just love books like this that continue to perpetuate certain myths that Natives only exist in the west, and the rest of us don't.

Try looking towards the east coast, half the stuff you wrote about happened on my reservation, and still does, but oh, wait, we don't ride around on horses and look the part as defined by THIS society and those cosner/john wayne films.

You stuck to the atypical treatment of natives, and bought nothing new to that view.

You took facts, poverty, alcoholism, culture conflict, etc., and put them in a setting that could have been any race. Heck, the intro says it best by comparing this to the Sorpranos, because there was nothing in this that remotely stood unique to the story of natives.

You could've stuck Penguins in the place of natives and it would've been no different.

Continue to award-winning work.

Thanks. Glad to know that FIRST CUT collection actually helped bring a new reader to the fold.

Sorry you didn't like whatever part of SCALPED you read, Robert. In regards to your concern, I don't see SCALPED as perpetuating the myth that Natives exist only in the west. The series is set in a specific location. It can't possibly reflect the circumstances of Native tribes coast to coast. That said, we will be seeing a few glimpses of other tribes and other reservations in the coming issues. I hope you'll give the book another shot.
