THOR GOD OF THUNDER #19

The next big arc of THOR kicks off in February, with the return of both artist Esad Ribic and Old King Thor. Decide for yourself which is the more imposing figure. We also have the (re)introduction of a big new villain for the God of Thunder: ROXXON. It's been awhile since we've seen the Marvel U's favorite evil corporation in action, but they come roaring back in a huge way in this arc. They've even got a brand new CEO, who's so ruthless he has the nickname The Minotaur. Though I wonder if that's the only reason he has that nickname? There's also lots of S.H.I.E.L.D. action, revolving around Agent Roz Solomon, our gun-toting environmentalist who first appeared back in THOR GOD OF THUNDER #12. Plus submarines, floating islands, flying factories, and oh yeah... King Thor vs. Old Galactus! I'm pretty excited about this one.

THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #19.NOW

Variant Cover by Simone Bianchi
THE LAST DAYS OF MIDGARD begin NOW!
Thor, Asgardian God of Thunder, has always fought to save his adopted home of Earth. But who can he fight when the planet itself is dying? Thor's mortal ally and environmental secret agent Roz Solomon has a few ideas. Namely the world's largest and most nefarious energy company Roxxon, and its ruthless new CEO known as "The Minotaur." Has the God of Thunder finally met his match, in the form of a multinational super-corporation? Meanwhile, many millennia ahead, a future version of Thor faces a very different battle to save what remains of the earth--a battle against the greatest villain the Marvel Universe has ever known—Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds!

THE END OF MY RUN ON WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN

As seen in the Marvel solicits for February, issue #42 will be the end of my run on WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN. The original plan was for me to write both WatXM and AMAZING X-MEN as sister titles. One dealing with the school, the other with the X-Men from that school going on adventures out in the world. But unfortunately my schedule just didn't allow that. So I've been writing the post-Battle of the Atom arc of WatXM as my goodbye to that series and to the Jean Grey School. Believe me, it wasn't easy for me to step away from this book. I've loved building that school and writing those characters, both the students and the teachers, as much as I've loved anything I've done in comics. But the school itself isn't going anywhere. And I'll still be writing a lot of those same characters over in AMAZING. And I've got lots of other stuff coming up that demanded my time, like THOR and SOUTHERN BASTARDS and some new things I can't tell you about just yet.

So I'll save all my tearful goodbyes until we get to the end, but for now, just let me say THANK YOU once again to everybody who's bought this book along the way. Thank you for embracing such an offbeat X-series. 42 issues of Bamfs and Doop and sentient lawns? I love you all for helping make that happen.

JGS forever.

The big arc featuring the return of Malekith the Accursed roars on, featuring Thor and his new comrades in the League of Realms chasing Malekith and his murderous dark elves all over the Norse cosmos. This arc represents the next big piece of the puzzle in terms of where things are headed with this series. I have long terms plans in mind for this one, and I just re-upped on my exclusive with Marvel, so I should be around to see them through. Hope you'll join us.

Hello.

It's me again.

Yeah, sorry, I don't post here very much, do I?

I always mean to, but you know, work has to come first. And believe it or not, my family likes to see me sometimes too. And then there's football, of course. And sometimes I even read.

But I figured it was time at least for an update on what I've been up to lately and what books I've got coming up.

THOR GOD OF THUNDER is still thundering along. Issue #11 just came out, wrapping up the story that started way back in issue #1. Next up, our amazing artist Esad Ribic takes a bit of a break and the great Ron Garney joins the book for a big arc focusing on Malekith the evil Dark Elf, who just happens to be the villain in the upcoming THOR: THE DARK WORLD motion picture (Buy copies for your movie-going friends!). I gotta say, the response to GOD OF THUNDER so far has really blown me away. It seems to be one of the best received books I've ever done. Which is great for me, because I'm having one hell of a time and hope to stick around for a really long run.

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN is about to wrap up one of our biggest arcs yet, the "Hellfire Saga," which ties up some of the plot threads that have been dangling for a long time now (I've written almost 40 issues of this book so far. Can't believe that. It's been a crazy couple of years.) After the "Hellfire Saga" we launch right into "Battle of the Atom," the year's big X-Men crossover event. Coming out of that, I'll still be writing WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN, still putting those poor kids through hell. But I'll also be taking on...

AMAZING X-MEN. A new series, featuring awesome art by the awesome Ed McGuinness. Our first arc: "The Quest for Nightcrawler." 'Nuff said.

SOUTHERN BASTARDS is the first creator-owned series I've had announced since SCALPED wrapped up. It's also my first work for Image. Think SCALPED, but with rednecks. All drawn by my pal Jason Latour. No release date yet, though we're shooting for early next year.

I was thrilled to be invited by Scott Snyder to write a short story for his upcoming AMERICAN VAMPIRE anthology. It was great to work for Vertigo again, even if it was just a few pages.

Other than that... there are a few other things I'm already working on. A couple more creator-owned projects, as well as some new stuff for Marvel. But that'll all have to stay seeeeecret for just a little bit longer.

Um, what else?

I'm reading the Song of Ice and Fire books. Already mourning the loss of Breaking Bad as it winds down. Ready for some football (Roll Tide!).

If you want me to scribble on your comics, the only other show I'll be doing this year is my friend Tony Moore's Cincy Comicon in September. So bring your shit and I'll be happy to devalue it for you. I'm sure I'll be doing a few cons next year. Don't know what they'll be yet though.

But anyway, that's what I'm up to. How about you?

And as always, thanks for reading.

X-MEN: BATTLE OF THE ATOM

As announced at C2E2 today, I'll be working on this year's 50th Anniversary X-Men event, BATTLE OF THE ATOM, along with Brian Michael Bendis, Brian Wood and a host of talented artists, including the legendary Art Adams who did this cover. I'm excited and honored to be a part of this one, especially given the landmark anniversary. I had an Art Adams X-Men poster on the wall of my room when I was a kid. Now here I am, getting to help guide those same characters, in their 50th year. Surreal.

My Stuff Coming in June 2013

The most depraved cosmic romance comic ever made continues, as young Thanos leaves his home among the moons of Saturn to walk the wild worlds of the galaxy's outer rim. This book is really quite unlike anything I've ever written for Marvel. Thought in some ways I suppose you might say it's a combination of what I'm doing on THOR GOD OF THUNDER and what I did on SCALPED. Gritty god-powered epicness. Cosmic noir.

THANOS RISING #3 (OF 5)
JASON AARON (W) • SIMONE BIANCHI (A/C)
• The Mad Titan flees his home in search of true love.
• But how many lives will he have to take to find it?
• The book so blood-soaked you’ll be glad it’s a mini-series.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

Speaking of Thor... How about that damn cover? Good God. That's my favorite one yet by Esad. In this issue, the Godbomb arc kicks into crazy high gear, as we get what are without a doubt the biggest, most truly epic fight scenes I've ever written. Just as you might expect from a book featuring not one, not two, but THREE damn THORS!

The beginning of the Hellfire Saga, the biggest arc yet on WatXM. The series has been building toward this for quite a while, so a lot of plots that have been percolating for a couple of years now begin coming to a head with this issue. This one features a whole bunch of bad guys, both old favorites and some new characters, including one particular little fella that I still can't believe Marvel let me get away with. This may be the one that gets me drummed out of comics forever.

At long last, the Bamfs get in on the action. Yes, there will be whiskey involved.

So yeah, I'm doing a Thanos origin mini-series. Here's me talking about it to MTV. And yes, we did try to make my living room look as creepy as possible. It didn't take much extra work though.
